Description
RPB-C-2000-00 – Rudder Bearing for a 2 Inch Rudder Stock.
Tides Marine TYPE-C Rudder Ports are for use in new construction or retrofits. They may be used with any hull material. They can be mounted into a built-up pad inside FRP or Wooden hulls or installed into a matching flanged tube in FRP or metal hulls. Unlike the typical custom fabricated assembly with separate bearings and packing, the TYPE-C combines both sealing and bearing functions in a cost effective housing.
It is an ABS-approved configuration and offers a substantial bearing surface-to-stock diameter ratio. The units consist of a single piece plastic housing with a nitrile lip seal.
The TYPE-C is 100% watertight, requires no maintenance and eliminates chatter and vibration resulting in quieter, smoother performance. It also eliminates the problems of metal-on-metal abrasion, electrolysis and corrosion
The Tides Marine Type C rudder port is used in vessels constructed of FRP, steel or aluminum which have an integral rudder port tube and flange. Unlike the typical assemble with separate bearing and packing, the Type C unit combines both sealing and bearing functions in a cost-effective housing. It is an ABS and Lloyds approved design and offers a substantial “bearing surface” to “rudder stock diameter” ratio.
The units consist of a one-piece UHMW housing and a nitrile lip seal. The Type C is 100% watertight. It eliminates metal-to-metal contact and the associated problems of abrasion and electrolytic corrosion. Rudder chatter and vibration are reduced, resulting in quieter, smoother performance. |
To determine which part to order, measure the exact diameter of your rudder stock (.000″) and the inside diameter of the rudder tube into which it will be mounted. Be sure that the ID of the tube is round, so that the barrel of the Type C will slide in easily (without force). If necessary, Tides will machine the barrel of the Type C to ensure a proper fit within the tube. Using the rudder stock size and tube ID measurement, locate your part in the table on the Imperial or Metric Size pages. Next, confirm that the existing tube flange is of sufficient size to accept the bolt pattern and diameter of the flange (Column C) on the Imperial or Metric size pages. Make certain your existing rudder tube is long enough to encase the entire Type C within its shape. Finally, refer to Column E in the table on the Imperial or Metric size page to make sure there is sufficient space over the top of the existing rudder tube to install this Type C bearing. |

The following is a description of the installation procedure associate with the Type-C port/bearing. Installation instructions are included with each unit and should be followed closely.
NOTE: Before installing the rudder, insert the red seal protector into the lip seal. When the rudder is in place, remove, invert and replace it on top of the Type-C unit to keep debris off the lip seal during use, if space permits. |
