Tides Marine Upper Rudder Bearing Bars were developed in conjunction with production boat builders as a way of saving both time and production costs. Designed as an alternative to other cast bronze bar units and rudder shelves, they eliminate the need for associated patterns, materials and construction labor.
The units, which mount directly to the stringers, maintain a low profile relative to stringer height and are molded from a carbon fiber composite with a UHMW ball-type bearing molded in place. They are extremely strong and lightweight. Like the other Tides Marine Upper Rudder Bearings, the Upper Rudder Bearing Bar is self aligning to 10 degrees and, with the use of a rudder collar, carries the download from the rudder.
This composite/plastic design eliminates metal-to-metal contact and the problems of abrasion, electrolysis and corrosion. It offers smooth quiet performance, is self lubricating and maintenance free.
The units are typically used in conjunction with Tides Marine Accessory Mounting Bars which simplify the installation of the other steering components. If the current production configurations don't match the stringer spacings or rudder stock position in the boat, contact Tides Engineering.

Tides custom builds the Upper Rudder Bearing Bars to builders specifications. The table below lists current configurations which are available. For your particular application, you will need to know the following dimensions: "A" the exact rudder stock diameter (.000 in.), "B" the overall length (outside-to-outside of the stringers) and "C" the distance from the center of the rudder stock to one end. Also, it is necessary to specify the width of the end "E" for positioning of the mounting hole(s), and "F" the height above the stringers.
