Rudder Port Bearing Tube System

Rudder Tube Systems

System Overview

Based on our patented Type D System, The Tides marine Rudder Port/Bearing Tube System is a self contained approach to rudder port design created for the FRP boat builder. Conceived as a "built-in" System, these ports are installed during initial lay-up for accurate and simple repeatability, providing a stronger, longer life bearing system. Contained within a sealed tube, the bearing assemblies come pre-aligned making rudder installation easier.

With minor mold modifications, the Tube System can relieve boat builders of several hours of post-lay-up installation time. Options have been designed to facilitate installations in a variety of hull configurations and complete staff training is part of every Tides Marine program.

Using the Tides Marine Rudder Port/Bearing Tube System affords the boat builder quiet, smooth, vibration free operation combined with a repeatable time saving installation.

Component Overview

The Tides Marine Tube System components consist of the tube assembly with bearings and seal and a re-useable alignment plug and fastener assembly.

Tube body construction is compatable with polyester, vinylester and epoxy based systems.

Bearing and seal assemblies are of single piece UHMW housing construction with nitrile lipseals. This polyethylene bearing eliminates the problems of metal on metal abrasion, electrolysis and corrsion. They are 100% watertight and maintenance free.

Installation Types

The procedure for modifying the mold and installing the Tube pre-layup differs according to the type of hull being produced. The following are the three most common variations. Click the name or drawing for the Product Installation.

Click for Installation

TYPE ONE- Molds with an existing "flat" at the rudder port location which will use the standard flange type liner.

Click for Installation

TYPE TWO- Molds which require modification to achieve a "flat" surface or pocket for mounting a standard flange type liner.

Click for Installation

TYPE THREE- Molds which require modification to accept an angled liner to match deadrise and rocker angles.
