Tides Marine

    Rudder Port/Bearing Type C Rudder Port/Bearing Type C
   Product Overview
Tides Marine TYPE-C Rudder Ports are used primarily on larger steel or aluminum hulls which have a welded-in rudder port tube with flange. Unlike the typical custom fabricated assembly with separate bearings and packing, the TYPE-C combines both sealing and bearing functions in a cost effective housing.

It is an ABS-approved configuration and offers a substantial bearing surface-to-stock diameter ratio. The units consist of a single piece plastic housing with a nitrile lip seal.

The TYPE-C is 100% watertight, requires no maintenance and eliminates chatter and vibration resulting in quieter, smoother performance. It also eliminates the problems of metal-on-metal abrasion, electrolysis and corrosion.

   Product Installation

Installation

The following is a brief description of what is involved when installing the RPB TYPE-C. Complete installation instructions are included with each part and should be followed closely.
  1. Insert the unit into the tube. Using the hole pattern in the TYPE-C flange as a template, drill thru holes for mounting.
  2. Remove the unit and prep the tube for bonding by wiping the inside clean of any dust or construction debris.
  3. Using a medium-bodied epoxy or Chockfast®, coat the outside of the unit. In addition, lay a bead of marine sealant (such as Lifecaulk® or 3M® 101) under the flange at the top of the barrel.
  4. Insert the unit into the tube and fasten using the appropriate size SS hex head bolts. (Use flat and lock washers if necessary).

   Before Ordering
To determine which part to order, you need to measure the diameter of the rudder stock "A" (.000 in.) and the I.D. of the rudder tube into which the unit will be mounted "B". Be sure that the rudder tube is round so that the barrel of the unit will slide in easily without forcing. If necessary, Tides will custom size the barrel for a proper fit. Next, confirm that there is sufficient tube flange material for drilling the mounting holes and adequate space to accommodate both the flange diameter "C" and flange height "D".
