If an Engine Stops running:If your vessel has a crossover system, the "good" engine should be able to provide sufficient cooling water to both shaft seals until the vessel is back at the dock. If I have to be Towed:If you have to be towed, it is best to put shaft break on the propeller shafts to prevent them from spinning while being towed as NO Water will be cooling and lubricating the seals. If you can run one or two engines out of gear, this will also lubricate the seals. |
