Crevice Corrsion - A way to Prevent It

Stainless Steel requires oxygenated water. If your vessel sits for long periods of time, crevice corrosion may occur. It is highly recommended that you visit your vessel every 2 weeks and do the following to prevent crevice corrosion.

  • Make sure your Vessel is properly tied off or anchored.
  • Start your engine(s) and let them warm up.
  • While waiting for your engine(s) to warm up, turn your steering wheel all the way to Port and then back to Starboard. Do this at least 3 times. This will oxygenate the water around your rudder stock.
  • Once your engines are warmed up, at idle speed, put them in gear for a very short period of time. Do this to the Port and Starboard side (if applicable) individually. This will oxygenate the water around your propeller shaft.
